Day 3 [China Excursion-Extension] Wanted: Emperor producing Royal Palace
Reported by Bernice Low

Day 3 of the Mastery Academy China Excursion 2005 Extension Option took the students to the Yonghe Lamasery. Now, at first glance, this appears to be a puzzling choice of locations to visit. But one must always understand the context of the building one is auditing in order to appreciate its significance.

Before it became the Yonghe Lamasery, it was the Yonghe Gong, the home of the 4th son of Emperor Kangxi, Prince Yin Zheng. It was also in this palace that the future Emperor Qian Long was born. Hence, Yonghe Lamasery is an essential stop because it is a palace that has produced two Emperors.

Of course, Emperor Yong Zheng had an advantage already provided to him by the Yin House Feng Shui of his grandfather, Emperor ShunZi which clearly empowers and favours the 4th son, which was Emperor Yong Zheng. What his Yang House did was to provide him with the added push needed to succeed his father in what is historically known to be an extremely severe fight for the throne amongst the 14 sons of KangXi.

The Yong He Lamasary is a rectangular shaped building, hence, it is a building with long Qi. Hence it is essential that the structure of the buildings be able to draw in the Qi, then collect it and circulate it around the entire complex, all the way to the back.

A few students picked up the fact that the structure and the buildings were designed in such a manner so as to alternately jut out or protrude and sink in, thus preventing the escape of Qi. Joey pointed out the obvious special San He internal Qi flow structure formation. From each doorway, it is not possible to see the doorway before. This weaving in and out of buildings enables the Qi to be pulled in, collected and circulated around the long palace complex. Words cannot describe the uniqueness of this structure as pointed out to the students during Joeys explanation of the palaces Feng Shui.

For students who had attended the China Excursion 2004, it was not just a revision, but also, a chance to look at some new aspects to the Yong He Lamasery. The river behind the Yonghe Lamasery, is a Tan Lang Water Structure, hence during the reign of both Ying Zheng and Qian Long, China was prosperous and grew wealthy.

Home fit for an Empress

The next stop after lunch was to the Summer Palace. This palace is long been 'famous' for it's great Feng Shui. Many international tours bring hundreds and thousands of tourists here to view the so called 'excellent Feng Shui'.

The original plan was for students to climb up to the pavilion on Longevity Hill to get a vantage point of the surrounding landform and see the property from a bird's eye perspective but unfortunately, renovations were underway at the pavilion.

Still, as Joey reminded the students, don't let what you cannot see interfere with what you can see and do. So, students had to figure out the Feng Shui of the Summer Palace, with whatever tools they had in hand.

At the entrance, Joey already dropped a hint when he asked them to take a direction at the entrance and once again, at a small pavilion in front of the lake. Most of the students picked up the obvious landform structure, which has a prominent and high White Tiger and virtually no Green Dragon. They also recognised that the closeness of the lake to the buildings caused some difficulty with the collection of the Qi.

Does the Summer Palace have good Feng Shui? Think about it,it suffered at least 2 major incidents of destruction and looting and was the seat of government during the downfall of the Qing Dynasty, when the Empress and two emperors ran administrative matters from within the walls.

Yet the Tour Guides are promoting the many cranes, dragons, tortoise and architectural designs as the 'good feng shui'. Clearly, they have confused 'cultural motifs' in architecture, with the actual study of Feng Shui.

As Joey pointed out, the main problem with the area is that the landform is not suited for an administrative building. The Summer Palace was originally constructed to be a garden and place of leisure. Hence, if the Emperor had intended for the Summer Palace to be a place for official business, the buildings should have been relocated to appropriately tap into the Qi and the small islet in the center of Kunming Lake should have been raised to form a table mountain. There is of course a special Luan Tou formation for the unique mountain which the main buildings are built on which is called 'Fu Shu Tiao jin Qian'.

The White Tiger formation is a unique structure, known as the curling white tiger but it is also a White Tiger that crosses the Bright Hall, a definite no-no. The direction of the Facing is at Mao, with a pagoda protruding on a small 'jin xing shan' formation hill at the You direction on the luo pan. This is of particular significance because the Empress Dowagers astrology chart is such that this particular setting actually favours and empowers her. But not the country.

After the audit of the Summer Palace, the students had a 2 1/2 hour recap at a nearby hotel, where the bonus session for many of the students was an in-depth and thorough discussion of Empress Dowager's BaZi by Joey and also, getting students to share their experiences and recollections of what they had learnt on the trip.

Even students who had visited some of the locations on last year's China Excursion, found they had many new insights, new ideas and new lessons from revisiting the old sites. Besides reinforcing their knowledge, the chance to relook the locations, with new knowledge from M4 for many, was an invaluable experience. The visit was exciting, the company was excellent, but the Feng Shui was even better!

This marks the end of the Extension Option of the Feng Shui Mastery Excursion Series 2005. The next Feng Shui Excursion 2006 is already in the works and Joey has promised we will visit brand new places and see some incredible and amazing places. The evening ended with fond goodbyes and no doubt, everyone is not just looking forward to the China Excursion 2006, but seeing old friends, spending time with each other in pursuit of knowledge and of course, seeing new and interesting Feng Shui!
